Initial SetUp of the Samsung Chromebook Plus

December 2, 2017 Leave a Comment

The Thanksgiving Holiday and ensuing shopping madness delayed our Samsung Chromebook Plus (SCP for short), but we are on the trail now! Now that we have taken it out of the box, it is time to do the initial setup. Make sure it’s fully charged or connected to AC power so you don’t run out of power in the middle of it.

It took me about 1.5 hours to do all the setup tasks, but I was also taking notes and multi-tasking while doing this. I haven’t done a Chromebook setup in at least four years 🙂 One thing to remember before you get started is that the first Google account that logons to the Chromebook is automatically designated by the computer as the owner. You cannot change it unless you do a factory reset. So make sure you decide that before getting started!

I logged on a Guest first and then with my Google account. I don’t know if this caused it, but on my initial login, I didn’t show as the Owner (I couldn’t make changes to the “People” section). After rebooting it for the first time, the Ownership was tagged to my account. So do not panic, reboot 🙂

Unboxing the Samsung Chromebook Plus

November 21, 2017 Leave a Comment

Both my current Chromebook and Android tablet were prehistoric at best, so when I saw that the Samsung Chromebook Plus went down to $350 during the Black Friday festivities at amazon.com, it was a no-brainer, a two-for-one purchase without breaking the bank!

I am planning to have a LOT of posts about it here, starting with a text and pictures unboxing 🙂 I promise, no annoying audio or video in this post! Not only that, but you will find some useful tidbits here! Money-back guarantee 🙂

Second Impressions review of the Fossil Explorist Q (FTW4004)

November 12, 2017 Leave a Comment

And we are back with more findings on the Fossil Explorist Q (FTW4004). This is a continuation of the First Impressions, so I won’t repeat anything here.

NOTIFICATION SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING

I had both the phone and the watch active at the same time, and I noticed (for the first time) how the Notification syncing works. It’s like synchornized swimming! You swipe away a particular notification on the watch, and you watch it (perception wise) instantaneously self-swipe away from the phone’s screen.

It’s magic 🙂

Getting started with Movies Anywhere

October 19, 2017 Leave a Comment

Movies Anywhere is a step in the right direction for consumers but certainly not the end of the road in terms of needed improvements. It is a better way of doing things than Ultraviolet, which felt more like a half-hearted attempt from the beginning.

Movies Anywhere is the expansion of Disney’s own “Disney Anywhere” service to include movies from a handful of other movie studios, and to connect your unified library to all participating services. It is free to use and you don’t get any ads or previews (like the DVDs) while watching the movies.

Bug Report: Tasker refuses to release Phone Permission

October 17, 2017 Leave a Comment

In this new series of “Bug Reports”, we point out issues with today’s apps, hardware and software. Today’s subject is the Tasker Android app (Google PLAY). On Nougat (Android 7.0), the app refuses to release the “Phone” permission. I turn it off, and whenever I go back into the settings, it’s back on again!

Not sure what’s going on here. It’s the first time I’ve seen an app refuse to relinquish an Android permission. Even Google’s own data hungry apps obey the permission denials 🙂

I will post updates here if I find an answer or if it gets solved with future updates…

The Fossil Q Explorist FTW4004 Smartwatch does NOT have a flat tire!

October 14, 2017 Leave a Comment

This [the Fossil Q Explorist FTW4004] is my first smartwatch and only recently I discovered the whole kerfuffle with “flat tires” on smartwatches. Since this is an important aspect to a number of smartwatch fans, I wanted to post a quick update for anyone interested or curious or worried about it.

I’m happy to note that this smartwatch does not have a flat tire! I’ve been playing it for about 24 hours already, and have pictorial evidence for you right below.
