Unboxing the Fossil Q Explorist FTW4004 Smartwatch

October 12, 2017 Leave a Comment

WE have a new unboxing post for you, a practical text and pictures style, so don’t worry, no annoying video and audio 🙂 It is our first adventure in the land of smartwatches, the brand new Fossil Q Explorist FTW4004, an Android Wear 2.0 model in the brown color scheme!

THE BOX

It arrives in a very gift-friendly shrink-wrapped (in cellophone) cardboard box, roughly 4.5 by 4.5 by 3 inches tall. Measurements are approximate.

OPENING THE FOSSIL Q EXPLORIST BOX

Gently tear into the shrink-wrap, so the actual cardboard box does not get scratched. Then push the top part up, opening it like this (no tools needed since they are not glued together):

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

As you can see, the watch is the first thing you see after you open it. Everything else is underneath the custom eggcrate for the watch. Everything else that is included:

  • two little booklets (one is a very basic getting started guide in many languages; the other is required legalese)
  • the wireless charger in an orange little container

Here they are:

THE WIRELESS CHARGER

The included wireless charger is the recommended way to charge it. There is no microUSB port on the Fossil Q for charging, it is charged through the bottom of the watch sitting on the included charger.

There is lots of wrapping on the charger, including protective cellphone on the charging disc, along with different bits of paper to keep it in shape while waiting for you to open the box. Look at all the stuff I had to remove from the poor charger!

And here is the charger in all its glory. It’s Apple-white 🙂 As you can see in the picture, there is a little charging light that turns red when you connected it to a power source. An AC adapter is NOT included, you have to connect this USB Type A cable to a computer or wall charger.

THE Fossil Q Explorist FTW4004 Smartwatch

And here we are, at the centerpiece of this unboxing, the actual watch 🙂

As you can see with the ruler in picture, it is not a tiny watch, but the leather strap “humanizes” it ~ for a luck of a better work. It makes it feel less like a smart-something, and more like a watch.

The white paper you see is for protection and removable. Likewise, the watchface is just a sticker, the Fossil Q is unpowered out of the box.

Yes, that’s an actual crown you see there, resting on the ruler so you can measure it. Because crowns and watches go hand in hand – at least according to some timepiece fans 🙂

Here’s the placeholder watchface sticker – a measurement of the radius of the actual round watch face:

The leather strap is perhaps one of the main reasons people are interested in this particular model, so here are a couple of additional views of it:

SO HOW DOES THIS SMARTWATCH PERFORM?

That is a great question that we will explore in future posts! This is only the unboxing! Stay tuned to this blog for more action! I will also add the links here for your convenience.

If you have any questions about this, please leave a comment here or in the future posts and I’ll try to answer it as fast as I can!
